2015 - 2016 Friends First

Calgary AA Ringette endorses the Friends First program. Each team, each age division—plus coaches, managers and parents—are reminded that strong leadership combines both competition and sportsmanship. Supporting each other, and our sister teams, promotes friendships on and off the ice and elevates our game.

Here are some highlights from this season:

Celebration of Friendship for U19AA Red and Blue

During the 2016 Provincials in Lacombe, AB, Feb. 26-28, the U19AA Red and Blue team got all glammed up in their grad dresses, as a show of friendship and support for one of their own, who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Sherwood Park Friendship Series

At the start of February, Sherwood Park hosted a friendship series where U14AA teams were mixed with players from the National Ringette League’s Black Gold Rush. Calgary U14AA Blue had 4 players attend.

Remembrance Day Friendship Tournament

On Nov. 11, Calgary U14AA teams got together for round robin and mixed 3-on-3 team play, followed by pizza for all. In honour of this day, games were started with a moment of silence, and players brought a non-perishable food item to donate to the Veterans Food Drive.
 

Cochrane Ice Breaker Tournament

The weekend of September 25-27, Calgary U14AA hosted a seven team friendship tournament, including Central, Edmonton and SPRA as travelling teams, and Zone 2 as a local guest. Teams also participated in a social event that focused on “What Does Sportsmanship Mean to Me?” where athletes got to know each other better. It was a great way to start the season, we’re hoping to do it again next year!
