Interested in being a Junior Coach in AA Ringette Calgary?

The Ringette Alberta Junior Coach Program is an important part of the Ringette experience for coaches and players. The purpose of the Junior Coach Program is to build the future of our sport by providing these young coaches with critical mentoring and coaching experience with the support and guidance of our qualified Head and Assistant Coaches.

Junior Coaches are also an incredible resource of positive energy and Ringette expertise for our coaches and younger athletes. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience to offer to their teams both on and off the ice.

Who can apply?

We invite current or previous AA athletes in U19 or 2^nd year U16 (aged 17 or under) to apply for our Junior Coach program. We will work with the head coaches of our U14AA and U16AA teams to find the best possible team assignment for you.

Are you a U14 or a 1^st year U16 aged athlete? We aim to assign Junior Coaches so that they are at least 2 years older than the players they will be coaching. This is to avoid the awkward situation of coaching players who were their peers the previous season. We encourage you to connect with your home association to get involved as a Junior Coach with one of their younger divisions. We would love to see you give back to these young athletes while representing the AA Ringette Calgary program with pride!

How to Apply

Please complete our online application to be considered for a Junior Coach role with AA Ringette Calgary. If you already have an NCCP#, please have it handy to complete your application.

• After you apply, our volunteers will connect with you if we require any further info and/or to provide you with further assistance on completing the various training modules, etc.
• Assignments will be confirmed AFTER teams are drafted in September to ensure even distribution.

Selection Process

• All prospective Junior Coach must submit an application.
• Head Coaches can recruit their Junior Coaches based on the specific needs of their team and their team staff.  Please direct the recruited Junior Coaches to complete the application.
• The AA Ringette Calgary Junior Coach Program volunteers will work with Head Coaches to encourage assignments that best support the applicants, teams, and the association in general. For example:
• Aim to ensure experienced applicants are distributed across teams
• Encourage all U14AA teams to select at least 1 or 2 Junior Coaches each
• Team requests by applicants will be considered but cannot be guaranteed
• Consideration will be given to applicants with a parent coach or sibling on the team
• Due to the limited number of teams, assignments cannot be guaranteed.
• Once assigned to a team, the respective Junior Coach applications will be shared with the Head Coaches for their reference.
• All Junior Coach assignments will have the final approval of the Calgary AA Ringette Junior Coach Program volunteers and/or Exec Committee.

Important Tips for Head Coaches

• Junior Coaches are a member of your team staff. Welcome your Junior Coach and identify what their learning goals are for this season.
• Junior Coaches must always be under the supervision of a qualified Head or Assistant Coach. They are not permitted to be on the ice without a certified coach.
• Junior Coaches must also abide by the “Rule of Two” like all other team staff.
• Junior Coaches do not meet the Ringette Alberta requirement for at least 1 qualified female coach on the team staff.
• Junior Coaches must wear a helmet with cage, neck guard and gloves while on the ice for practices.
